Juno Trajectory to Jupiter

Cruise Activities:

  • Checkouts for the spacecraft’s engineering subsystems & science instruments
  • Trajectory control maneuvers (TCMs)
  • Deep space maneuvers (DSMs)
  • Prepare for October 9, 2013 Earth flyby (at ~550 km altitude) including spacecraft health & safety, targeting, & science planning
  • Outbound to Jupiter some science observations will be done, along with periodic maintenance of the instruments
  • Science planning – science team has to plan operations for all 30 science orbits
  • Start preparing for Jupiter orbit insertion operations in summer 2015 (about 1 year in advance)
